First hearing in the case against civilians evacuated from Sur begins

40 people, 32 of whom are in prison now, that had been evacuated from Sur during the state's genocidal attacks appear in court today.

40 people, 32 of whom are in prison now, that had been trapped in in Amed’s Sur district due to 104 day-long clashes and later evacuated, appear in court today for the first time after 10 months.

Dicle News Agency (DİHA) journalist Mazlum Dolan is among the civilians prosecuted at Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court, for 20 of whom aggravated life sentence is sought for "disrupting the unity of the state." Dolan and the rest of the detainees are accused of "membership to a terrorist organisation" and "violating the law on meetings, shows and marches."

Prosecuted Remziye Tosun participated in the hearing with her child, and families of the defendants are watching the hearing. Many soldiers and police officers are present at the courthouse, and translators help the majority of the tried civilians that are defending themselves in Kurdish.
