Footage of guerrilla action in Heftanin

Gerîla TV published footage of a large-scale guerrilla action in the Heftanin region of the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

Massive explosions rocked a hill occupied by the Turkish army in the Keşan area in the southern Kurdish region of Heftanin on October 30. As a video published on the online portal Gerîla TV shows, guerrillas struck the Turkish positions on two fronts at seven in the morning. Explosions and intense gunfire can be seen and heard on the video.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) reported that guerrillas approached the Turkish position from two sides to close combat distance. One front attacked and destroyed three Turkish positions with semi-automatic weapons. The second front attacked with machine guns and hand grenades, penetrated Turkish army positions and directly attacked Turkish forces’ tents and dugouts. With the beginning of the action, panic broke out among the soldiers. Many left the hill in flight and scattered in the terrain. During the action, among others, a mortar position and a 60mm mortar, a machine gun position, an observation post and two tents containing military equipment were completely destroyed.

According to the HPG, the first front of guerrillas found the bodies of two soldiers and seized a grenade launcher. The second front discovered four dead soldiers and seized three machine guns. The guerrillas assume far more soldiers were killed than found. All targeted positions on the hill were successfully destroyed, according to the HPG statement.
