"For the guerrillas, comradeliness is the best medicine"

Azê Viyan works as a medic for the guerrillas in the Battle (Cenga) of Heftanin offensive against the Turkish army's invasion of Southern Kurdistan. She says that for the fighters, the comradeliness life is the best medicine.

Azê Viyan has been carrying out her duties as a guerrilla fighter and medic in the Heftanin region of Southern Kurdistan for more than two years. She told ANF about her experiences. As a paramedic, she hastens from position to position, thus fulfilling an important role in the fight against the invasion. Asked whether being a medic with the PKK is something special, Azê Viyan firmly affirms, saying, "It is because those whose wounds you tend are your companions. Comradery relations are the highest value in the PKK. You must be prepared for everything, because the fighters who take part in action and get hurt are your companions and you must act calmly and deliberately in such a situation. Experience has taught us that medicine is not everything. It does of course play a role, but when you are dealing with a fighter on a cooperative basis, it is the best and most valuable medicine".

"My strongest weapon is my medicine bag"

Azê Viyan tells the following about difficult days: "Some days you can't reach your friends and sometimes you have to watch at their side for days. But when you feel their joy, their happiness, when you treat them, when they feel better and their pain stops, then you feel as if you have fired a bullet at the enemy. Being part of an action group, going to the front and taking action is not everything. It is very important, but my strongest weapon is my medicine bag. The feeling in this role is very special. By cleaning a wound and healing it, I shoot my bullets at the enemy. It is an action against the enemy."

"Heftanin is the realm of free women"

Viyan continues: "The friends in the guerrilla have an iron will. Even when they are wounded, I draw strength from their morale and enthusiasm. For example, they help me to clean their wounds even though they are wounded. An injury is actually a trace of the revolution, a trace of Battle of Heftanin. Heftanin is a nightmare for the enemy every day. Coming to Heftanin was not easy for it, but getting out will be even harder. Our friends fight with great morale, passion and determination. Heftanin is the realm of free women, because history was written in Şeşdara under the leadership of women like Heval Esmer."
