A forest fire has broken out after Turkish artillery attacks on Mount Cudi in Northern Kurdistan.
Once again the Turkish army has set fire to forest areas in the countryside of Şırnak province. A forest fire broke out near the village of Xinis (Uyanık). The Turkish army launched artillery fire from a base in Silopi district at night around 1.00 am. The shells hit near Xinis. The fire could be seen from as far as the centre of Silopi.
The forest fire continued on Saturday morning as the authorities did not make any effort to put it out. The Turkish army is trying to deprive the guerrillas of room to move by burning down the forests.
