A forest fire has broken out on the Şerevan highland in the Kurdish province of Şırnak on Saturday. As no extinguishing work is being carried out, the flames continue to spread. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is not clear.

Residents from the region saw the flames already flickering in the midday hours and informed the disaster control. No information is available as to why the authorities have still not intervened. It is possible that a Turkish military operation is taking place in the region.

Meanwhile, the clouds of smoke above the highland can even be seen from the centre of the Şırnak city. It is feared that a large forest area with several animals could fall victim to the flames.
