The large-scale operation launched by the Turkish army continues in the rural areas of 18 villages in Amed's Lice district which were placed under strict curfew three days ago. 8 thousand soldiers, special operations police and village guards are partaking in the operation.
The air-supported operation is conducted in an area of 30 kilometers within the boundaries of Amed's Lice district and Bingöl's Genç district, and military activity intensifies in the territory of Zengesor, Xosor, Mergê, Mızak, Hendiv, Barav and Axtigan villages.
Phone services are interrupted, which makes communication with the locals impossible, and there is no access to the region for three days.
Nearly 100 armored vehicles have been dispatched to the operation area late Tuesday evening in addition to an intensified deployment by helicopters.
Many locals were reportedly detained as result of house raids during the operation, including İdris Atagün and Ahmet Alkın who were taken into custody after going out to grass their cattle. It is not known where the two men are being held and their families are not provided with information as to where they were taken.
The operation area is witnessing sporadic bombardments by the Turkish forces that include 7 thousand gendarmes, 600 special operations police and 559 village guards, according to the related statement of Diyarbakır Governorate.
