The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla carried out a Revolutionary Revenge Operation against the invading Turkish army on May 24 in the Girê Cehennem battle positions in Çiyareş Resistance Area in Zap, in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
The Revolutionary Revenge Operation that lasted 12 minutes left at least 18 Turkish soldiers, two of whom were high-ranking officers, dead. The HPG statement concerning the operation included the following information:
“As evidence of the losses suffered by the invading Turkish army, which constantly conceals its casualties, guerrillas advanced on 12 dead Turkish soldiers and seized a military school ring of a high-ranking officer, 2 portable M-16 guns, 180 M-16 bullets, 2 grenade throwers, 1 MPT gun, 1 pistol, 1 cell phone, 1 assault vest, 1 steel vest, 1 military knife and 1 energy source. All the 4 military tents and 4 positions in which Turkish soldiers were located were completely destroyed.”
