Newroz celebrations are taking place all over Kurdistan, including in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). In the Xakurkê region in southern Kurdistan, guerrillas from the HPG (People’s Defense Forces) and YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) celebrated Newroz.

In Xakurkê, guerrilla units came together, lit a Newroz bonfire and held a military ceremony.

The guerrillas stated that they would raise the Newroz fire with the spirit of modern Kawas. The guerrillas noted that they would meet the process more ready than ever and fight with the spirit of victory.
