HPG-YJA Star guerrillas celebrated 4 April, the birthday of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
HPG-YJA Star Commanders Kawenda Herekol, Têkoşin Batman and Gülbahar Rojhilat joined the celebration ceremony and underlined in their speech the importance of Abdullah Öcalan for the Kurdish people and women.
The hunger strikers were commended at the ceremony and commander Kawenda Herekol said: “Serok Apo's birth is not just the birth of a person, it is when the path to freedom and truth began.”
"He is leading the way in the Middle East for 45 years"
Herekol added that Öcalan not only influenced the Kurds but also the other peoples in the Middle East and added: “Thanks to this consciousness, philosophy, resistance we got familiar with freedom. Serok Apo is a source of light, courage and faith for women, peoples and all the people who want freedom. The leadership is struggling for liberation, writing every moment the history of free struggle. And we, as his comrades and militants, are taking his struggle as an example and model to follow.”
Today, said Herekol, “Imrali conditions can be heavy for us. It may be a painful wound for us, but we have never accepted it and we will never accept it. No one can destroy our will and faith with this isolation. We are embracing our leadership in a circle with the resistance led by Leyla Guven and Nasir Yagiz, who are on an indefinite hunger strike. They [the enemy] want to create a distance between us and the leadership. Because the leadership is an idea and belief. The leadership is a free spirit, and he is well embedded in our brain and our heart.”
"Victory or victory"
Stating that self-criticism is an important element to liberate Öcalan, Herekol ended his speech with the following words: “On this basis, on 4 April 2019, with the spirit of the women's struggle we will reach a free Kurdistan for the leader. Our slogan is 'victory or victory'."
After the speeches a fire was lit, trees were planted in the mountains of Kurdistan, and the guerrillas danced the halay and chanted slogans.
