Guerrillas strike Turkish attack helicopters in Avaşîn and Zap

HPG/YJA Star guerrillas struck and damaged two Turkish attack helicopters in the Avaşîn and Zap areas.

The Press Centre of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement providing details concerning the latest guerrilla actions and the attacks of the Turkish army in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

The statement published on Monday includes the following:

“As part of the Bazên Zagrosê Revolutionary Campaign:

On October 10, Turkish attack helicopters set to bomb the Werxelê Resistance Area in Avaşîn region were targeted by our forces. One attack helicopter was damaged as a result of the strikes by our forces, after which the helicopters withdrew from the area.

On October 10, attack helicopters set to bomb Girê Werxelê in the Zap region were targeted in a coordinated guerrilla action from three directions. One helicopter was damaged as a result of the action.

On October 10 night, our forces hit an attack helicopter that sought to bomb the Şehîd Şahan and Girê Şehîd Sîmko areas in the Zap region. As a result of the intervention, the helicopters had to leave the area.

On 9-10 October at night, Turkish helicopter activity was observed over the areas of Girê Silêman, Mervanos, Mamreşo, Tabûra Ereba, Wexelê and Banista in Avaşîn region. During the same hours, the areas of Girê Şehîd Rizgar, Girê Şehîd Fırat, Girê Şehîd Întîkam, Dire Village, Geliyê Basya, Kartal and Werxelê were bombed by attack helicopters.

On October 9, Turkish helicopter activity was observed over the Qaşura line in the Metîna region. During the same hours, the vicinity of the villages of Hirore, Deşîşê, Serarû, Kêste and the Koordîne area were bombed by attack helicopters.

On October 10, the village of Horê in the Zap region was bombed by Turkish fighter jets.”
