The resistance of the PKK guerrillas against the Turkish army's invasion of the Medya Defense Zones in the southern part of Kurdistan, which has been ongoing since April, continues unabated. The Media and Communication Centre of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) reports several guerrilla actions in the past 24 hours, in which at least three members of the occupation forces were killed. The Turkish army, on the other hand, continues to use chemical warfare agents against the guerrillas, in addition to massive bombardments.
In the region of Zap, mobile units of HPG and YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) forced a transport helicopter with airborne troops on board to turn back by means of massive shelling on Thursday evening. The aircraft had been heading for the Saca area and was targeted from two sides. It was thus not possible to send the occupation forces into the mountainous terrain. Earlier, three soldiers were shot dead in sniper action in the resistance area of Karker. The guerrillas dedicated their retaliatory strikes to the martyrs Doğan Jîrkî, Karker Serbest and Rojda Kotol.
In Metîna, guerrillas carried out two sabotage actions against occupation forces. The actions took place in the surroundings of the Girê Cûdî resistance massif and were directed against attempted chemical weapons attacks by the Turkish military, according to the HPG. These attacks were initially prevented as a result of two successful interventions. However, later in the day, both at Girê Cûdî and in the Şikefta Birîndara area, the guerrillas' defensive positions were bombed by chemical warfare agents. The HPG recorded a total of six such attacks. "The chemical weapons used in Şikefta Birîndara spread grey and black smoke. We could observe that the black warfare agent was atomised into particles during the explosion," it said.
Intensive drone activities over guerrilla areas
The HPG further informed that intensive reconnaissance flights have been detected over the regions of Qela Çemço, Girê Amêdî, Girê FM and Girê Cûdî since the previous day. In parallel, there are air and ground attacks on the aforementioned areas. Qela Çemço has reportedly been bombed three times by Turkish fighter jets, and Amêdî, FM and Cûdî hills have been attacked at least 22 times by attack helicopters. The HPG put the number of artillery attacks recorded in the past 24 hours against guerrilla areas near the border at "several dozen". In Werxelê and Şikefta Birîndara, the Turkish army repeatedly attempted to demolish the guerrilla positions there with excavators. The HPG also pointed out that the construction of a military road for the Turkish army between Metîna and the west of the Zap region by forces of the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) is continuing.
