HDP Cizre District Co-chair arrested

HDP Cizre District Co-chair Semire Örüç was detained in a house raid in the morning hours yesterday and she was arrested in court later in the day.

HDP Cizre District Co-chair Semire Örüç was detained in a house raid by special operations police in the early yesterday morning and taken to the district police station. Örüç was accused of “instigating” violence during a clash that had broken out when two people reported to be members of the Hür Dava Party tried to enter a watch tent set up by YDG-H and YDGK-H members on December 26, 2014. Örüç also testified due to anonymous witness account that she has been attending meetings held by Cizre People’s Assembly.

Örüç gave her statement and then was referred to Cizre Courthouse. The prosecutor took her statement on the same two matters and referred her to the court with a demand for her arrest on grounds of the Turkish Penal Code Article 302, “Disrupting the unity of the state and the country”.

Örüç faced a judge and refused the accusations and the anonymous witness account but was arrested and sent to Şırnak T Type Closed Prison.
