HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş stated that genocide was taking place in Cizre, and called upon everyone to increase the level of resistance. Demirtaş noted that Cizre would not kneel down before AKP policies.
In his address to HDP Party Assembly, Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş stated that the HDP has always struggled for a non-violent solution to the Kurdish issue, and could not be insensitive to the casualties that have taken place since the end of the negotiations in April 2015. Demirtaş noted that they could not stop AKP’s insistence on war, but would not allow the violation of laws of war.
HDP Co-President recalled that approximately 100 youth and women have been trapped for the past two weeks in several basements across Cizre, where state forces violate wars of law on a regular basis. Demirtaş emphasized that only the perpetrators of the murders in Cizre knew the details of the on-going massacres, and the evidences of these massacres were spoiled regularly.
'CİZRE DOES NOT SURRENDER TO FASCISM'
In his statement, Demirtaş noted that state officials took the bodies of the civilians killed in Cizre to cities such as Urfa, Mardin, Şırnak and Malatya in order to cover up the AKP’s war crimes, and warned that whoever massacres 60 to 100 people could also massacre 100,000 people. He pointed out that the only way to stop these massacres was to resist fascism, just like the people of Cizre who have not surrendered to state forces.
HDP Co-President recalled the AKP’s imposition of one nation, one flag, one state, one party and one leader, and said that the HDP was the only oppositional force that has been able to resist AKP’s impositions. Demirtaş emphasized the need for dismantling AKP’s mentality aiming to consolidate power through fear and oppression.
'WE WILL MAKE ANY SACRIFICE NECESSARY FOR THE PEACE BLOC'
Demirtaş stated that the on-going process would lead to critical developments in the Middle East, and criticized the government for its establishment of a dictatorship that forms alliances with reactionary forces in the region. Demirtaş said that Erdoğan formed an alliance of war, and the only force that could resist this alliance could be a progressive bloc of democracy that would represent the bright future of Turkey. He emphasized that HDP was ready to make any sacrifice necessary for the formation of such a bloc that would bring together all progressive forces and establish an environment of justice, equality, and peace.
'AKP PLANNING WAR IN SYRIA'
Stating that AKP was not satisfied with the current war in Turkey and was also planning war in Syria, Demirtaş noted that, along with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Turkey was planning to re-design Syria and this plan was the main reason why it labeled the PYD as ‘terrorist.’
'NO MUSLIMS IN AKP CIRCLES'
Demirtaş criticized the insidious policies of AKP who claim to support solidarity between Turkish and Kurdish peoples but continue to wage war against Kurds. He also criticized everyone who is silent in the face of AKP’s war against Kurdish people, and accused Muslim writers and AKP supportors of fearing AKP more than fearing God. Demirtaş noted that nationalism had no place in Islam, but AKP was using Islam in order to implement its fascist policies.
'CALL TO THE PRIME MINISTER: RESIGN IF YOU CANNOT CRIPPLE THE PKK'
HDP Co-President stated that Prime Minister Davutoğlu was silent on the recent attacks of the Turkish state because he thought that the PKK would soon be crippled, and called upon Davutoğlu to resign if he could not cripple the PKK within a month. Demirtaş also asked Davutoğlu if he would apologize in the near future for the crimes AKP has been committing.
'THE SUN WILL RISE AGAIN!'
Demirtaş recalled that war crimes were exempt from prescription in law, and everyone who has been committing massacres in Kurdistan would eventually pay for their crimes. He called upon soldiers and police officers to disobey unlawful orders of genocide, and said that the sun would soon rise again and future generations would live better days.
'MIGRANT CRISIS: DIRTY BARGAIN'
In reference to the recent migrant crisis, Demirtaş stated that all international powers bargaining with the AKP were responsible for the catastrophe. Demirtaş described the on-going bargaining process as dirty, and said that the lack of a peaceful end to the war in Syria deepened the crisis. HDP Co-President said that the AKP opened the flow of migrants to Europe due to being stuck internally, and used the migrants fleeing war as a chip of political bargaining. Demirtaş recalled that thousands of migrants such as Alan Kurdi got on the boats heading to Europe with the approval of the Turkish government, and called upon European societies to object to the dirty bargaining process.
Lastly, HDP Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş called for increasing solidarity with the on-going ‘Make a noise against brutality!’ protests.
