HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Co-Presidents Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş issued a written statement on World Kobanê Day.

HDP Co-Presidents saluted the strong resistance of the people of Kobanê and said: "The fact that Kobanê, a city once described as 'About to fall', is now the glorious symbol of the resistance against fascism and inspires the peoples of the world with hope and resilience."

Yüksekdağ and Demirtaş emphasised that: "As we live in the most chaotic and bloody period of time in our geography after World War II, we believe that it is important to remember the resistance of the people of Kobanê against ISIS, the enemies of humanity. Kobanê resistance proves that the most violent and fascist groups that strike fear in the hearts of many can still be defeated with a strong resistance and struggle. The fact that this historic resistance earned a permanent place in the hearts of many across the world and received international solidarity, once again showed the universality of freedom and democratic values. We believe that just like in Kobanê, people will gain freedom and democracy with courage and faith in every part of the world. It is clear that strong resistance will bring the end of all fascist and authoritarian groups such as ISIS, Al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham that make life miserable for the peoples of our country and the Middle East.

We believe that democratic peoples’ forces, primarily the Kurds, will defeat ISIS and similar organizations that continue to threaten humanity and the entire world. With the determination of our struggle for freedom, peace, democracy and justice, we know that all fascist organizations and regimes will crumble, and sincerely salute the people of Kobanê and all other peoples that are resisting cruelty in different parts of the world."
