HDP deputies attacked by police in Derik

Curfew in Mardin's Derik district continues in its seventh day.

Curfew in Mardin's Derik district continues in its seventh day.

As state forces continue attacking the neighborhoods where self-rule was declared recently, people are responding to the onslaught with resistance.

Intense gunfire and attacks by state forces mainly target the neighborhoods of Cevizpınar, Dağ, Küçükpınar, Zeytinpınar and Kale.

Unable to enter the areas of self-rule, police and special operation teams are opening random fire on the neighborhoods.

Power and water remain cut, and phone and internet services restricted in all the five neighborhoods under curfew and attack.

In the meantime, a delegation from HDP have once again been attacked by police forces today after entering the district last night despite all the restrictions.

Deputies Meral Danış Beştaş, Çağlar Demirel, Gürsel Yıldırım and Mahmut Tuğrul were teargassed by police as they tried to enter the neighborhoods, demanding the ending of the curfew and blockade by security forces.

While the deputies were affected by intense tear gas, Meral Danış Beştaş and Çağlar Demirel felt faint but were denied access to Derik State Hospital for treatment.

As police insisting on hindering access to hospital, deputies were taken to Kızıltepe State Hospital.
