The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) has published the identity of a fallen guerrilla fighter. Şoreş Amed (Devrim Kavak) was killed in an attack by the Turkish army in the Medya Defense Zones in August 2019. HPG pays tribute to his long revolutionary struggle as a great contribution to the Kurdish liberation struggle.
Nom de Guerre: Şoreş Amed |
Şoreş Amed was born in Amed (tr. Diyarbakir). His family is known in the Kurdish liberation movement for their resistance against colonialist oppression and is considered "exemplary in the struggle for the dignity of our people," according to HPG: "This valuable family has many martyrs and accessions to the guerrillas, and for this reason has been constantly exposed to the enemy's repression and torture." The Kavak family had to leave Kurdistan and migrate to Europe. Nevertheless, the connection to their homeland never broke and the family members remained active in the liberation struggle.
Şoreş Amed joined the guerrillas in 2003 and spent a long time in the Medya Defense Zones. In 2008 to 2009, he fought in Northern Kurdistan and participated in numerous actions against the Turkish army. In order to fight against the enemy with a different tactic, he worked for a while in different cities in Turkey and was arrested in Istanbul in 2009. Despite physical and psychological torture, he did not surrender and used his imprisonment to further his education. "The enemy could only physically imprison Heval Şoreş. His spirit was free and always with his companions in the mountains of Kurdistan. He did not give up his passion for freedom for a moment and he managed to escape from the dungeon in Bingöl. After that, unfortunately, he was caught again."
Şoreş Amed was subsequently sent to prison in Amed, where he put a spectacular escape plan into action in 2016 together with other revolutionary prisoners and returned to the mountains after an adventurous journey. He then took on various tasks in the mountains. The HPG describes Şoreş Amed as an "exemplary militant" who stood out for his modesty, practical skills and ideological depth.
"Comrade Şoreş will always live on in our struggle. We extend our condolences to his precious family and the patriotic people of Kurdistan and renew our pledge to make the dream of a free life with Rêber Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) in a free Kurdistan come true," HPG said.
