People's Defense Forces (HPG) Commander Ibrahim Çoban (Atakan Mahir) was martyred in Dersim on August 11, and has been buried in Elbistan’s Aktil village after his family identified him and the body was taken from the Malatya Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Turkish state forces pressured locals to prevent a mass gathering for Çoban’s funeral.

Çoban was buried in the Aktil village with a ceremony only family members were allowed to attend. People in neighboring villages started condolence visits after the funeral.
