HPG exposes equipment of Turkish officers killed in South Kurdistan

Gerîla TV published footage of the equipment of two officers who were killed in southern Kurdistan during a guerrilla action in May along with nine other Turkish soldiers.

Eleven soldiers of the Turkish army were killed as guerrillas struck a Turkish unit trying to advance on Girê Şêhid Zemanî in the Girê Hekarî resistance area at 5.30 pm on 29 May. The guerrillas seized the soldiers' equipment, weapons and identification tags.

The online portal Gerîla TV has published footage showing a backpack, an assault rifle, magazines, knives, torches, and binoculars. A guerrilla fighter also shows the identification tags of two officers who were killed. One of the badges shown is that of Sergeant Major Yunus Eylik, the other that of Staff Sergeant Ali Taşkin of the Siirt Command Brigade.

The guerrilla fighter reports in the video that the action, in which eleven soldiers of the Turkish army were killed, was carried out by two units. Nine bodies were searched by the guerrillas. The confiscated MPT-55 rifle belonged to Sergeant Major Yunus Eylik.

 

In a statement on May 31, the press centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) said the following regarding the details: "Eleven members of the invading forces were killed and two wounded in the action. Our forces searched the bodies of nine soldiers. Among others, Sergeant Major Yunus Eylik, Staff Sergeant Ali Taşkın (Siirt Command Brigade), Staff Sergeant Mevlüt Çetin and Staff Sergeant Ahmet Akpınar were killed.

Among the killed occupants, one MPT-55 assault rifle and two magazines, one chain for one BKC machine gun and 470 rounds, two packs of pistol bullets, one pistol magazine, one B-7 rocket, ten metres of detonating cord, one detonator, one remote detonator, three military bags, one thermal imaging camera, one night-vision device, one pair of binoculars, four grenade launcher rounds, one bayonet, one mobile phone, one head-mounted camera, one compass, one portable solar panel and large quantities of supplies and medical items seized.”
