In its daily statement about the ongoing war in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), the Press Centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) reported continued actions against the Turkish army which has been conducting an invasion operation there since mid-April.
According to the statement, at least three Turkish soldiers were killed in a series of actions by mobile units of the HPG and YJA Star (Free Women's Troops) in the Zap region. Guerrillas struck Turkish positions a total of nine times in Çemço and Sîda on Thursday. Both areas are located in the Sheladize town in the Amadiya district, where the Turkish army operates a major military base.
HPG stated that two sniper actions were carried out by guerrillas, each resulting in one dead soldier, as well as five raids with light and heavy weapons. In between, a sabotage action was directed against an attempted advance of Turkish troops into guerrilla territory and at least one other soldier was killed. In the evening hours, a YJA-Star unit destroyed a Turkish military camera surveillance system installed in the area.
The guerrillas also struck the occupation forces in the Xakurke region the previous day. The action targeted soldiers in the Girê Şehîd Şahan. resistance area. According to HPG information, a Turkish military position was destroyed as a result of massive shelling and one soldier was killed.
The HPG also pointed out that the Turkish army carried out at least 15 chemical weapons attacks and three other attacks with banned bombs against guerrilla positions in Çemço on Thursday. In parallel, toxic smoke from lit car tires and other plastic material was discharged into an underground tunnel facility for the second time. In Xakurke, the HPG recorded four airstrikes by Turkish warplanes on Geliyê Lolan and Girê Cûdî. Both areas and the nearby hills of Şehîd Hakî and Şehîd Kamuran as well as Çemço, Sîda and Girê FM in the Zap region have been bombed almost non-stop with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons since yesterday.
