According to the daily statement by the People's Defense Forces (HPG), nine soldiers of the Turkish invasion forces were killed and two others were wounded in Southern Kurdistan on Tuesday. The guerrillas used various combat tactics, and a Turkish military position and a telescope were destroyed during the actions in the regions of Xakurke, Zap and Metîna, according to the HPG press centre. An attack helicopter and an armoured shovel excavator of the Turkish army were damaged in the guerrilla actions.
Turkish attacks with various chemical warfare agents
Regarding the attacks by the Turkish army, HPG said that chemical weapons and explosives were used against guerrilla positions a total of 13 times on the previous day. At Girê Amêdî, a chemical agent was used that spread dense black smoke and caused a burning sensation in the throat and eyes. In the Şikefta Birîndara area, the Turkish army carried out three attacks with a combination of chemical weapons and explosives and used phosphorus bombs twice. The agent used has a yellow-greenish colour and a pungent odour, reacts on contact with water and causes destruction to the human body. Other chemical weapons were used in Werxelê and Karker.
The guerrilla areas were also bombed ten times by fighter jets and eleven times by helicopters, and attacked dozens of times with howitzers and tanks from the Turkish outposts in the border area.
Guerrilla actions in the regions of Xakurke, Zap and Metîna
At Girê Şehîd Şahan in Xakurke, guerrillas hit a Turkish military unit with heavy weapons, leaving a position destroyed and two soldiers dead.
In Zap, an attack helicopter flying towards Çemço was fired upon and hit by the guerrillas. In the Şikefta Birîndara area, Turkish troops wanted to install a telescope on a guerrilla tunnel and were struck by guerrillas with firearms. The telescope was destroyed and one soldier was killed. Afterwards, an armoured shovel excavator of the Turkish army tried to advance towards the tunnel and was damaged by heavy weapons fire from the guerrillas.
At Girê Cûdî, a mobile sniper unit of the guerrillas shot and killed a soldier. At Girê Amêdî, three soldiers were killed in an action of sabotage and two others were injured. Two more soldiers were killed in another guerrilla action in the same area. An attempted advance by Turkish troops was repulsed with hand grenades and firearms.
