HPG pays tribute to commander Dîdar Tolhildan

Guerrilla Dîdar Tolhildan was one of the courageous Kurdish women who fought against ISIS in Rojava. The commander fell resisting the Turkish occupation in the Zap.

The guerrilla commander Dîdar Tolhildan fell as a martyr in May 2022 while resisting the Turkish invasion on Girê Cûdî in the Zap region in South Kurdistan. The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) said in a statement that "Dîdar Tolhildan was a courageous and self-sacrificing commander of the resistance and a leading militant of the PKK/PAJK.” The HPG expressed their condolences to the relatives of the guerrilla commander, the people of Rojava, the entire Kurdish people and "all whose hearts beat with revolutionary enthusiasm."

The HPG gave the following information on the identity of Dîdar Tolhildan:

 Codename: Didar Tolhildan
First and last name: Leyman Hesen
 Place of birth: Hesekê
 Mother and father’s name: Nûra–Berzan
Date and place of death: May 2022 / Zap

"Dîdar Tolhildan was born in Hesekê and belonged to the Gergerî tribe on her mother's side and to the Decorî tribe on her father's side. She grew up in a family linked to the Kurdish freedom movement. Leyman Şiwêş (Rihan Amûdê), who was killed in a Turkish drone attack a week ago and who influenced thousands of people in the 35 years of her revolutionary struggle, made such a big impression on Dîdar's parents during her lifetime that they named their daughter after her. She was Dîdar's aunt and introduced her to the liberation struggle as a child. Dîdar's uncle Latif (Abdullah Şiwêş) died in Garzan in 1994, and many other relatives fought in the Kurdish freedom movement. So Dîdar was practically born into this fight. She learned early on to stand on her own two feet and not be influenced by social pressure."

The statement added: "Dîdar Hesekê, together with the fallen commander Delîl Zagros, took on great responsibility for the training of the other guerrillas and the preparations for war on the western Zap front. She was instrumental in the defeat of the Turkish army in Zap in the 2022 resistance. The army, which had moved into the western Zap region with special forces, had to withdraw from the area at the end of the year. Dîdar was one of the commanders who opposed the occupying forces on 25 May 2022 and prevented soldiers from being stationed. She died in the first week of the resistance in the area of Girê Cûdî."
