The HPG have published the identity of a fallen guerrilla. Eser Warşîn died along with her commander Edessa Cejna in an enemy attack in Dersim last October.
Guerrilla Eser Warşîn died in an enemy attack in Dersim on 14 October 2023. The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) in Behdinan said that commander Edessa Cejna was killed in the same attack.
The HPG said Eser Warşîn was a self-sacrificing militant of the PKK and PAJK who took on important tasks for many years and defended the women's liberation ideology under all conditions. “She was always lively and modest and, with her pure personality, was considered a role model among her companions. Inspired by the resistance in Kobanê, she came to the free mountains of Kurdistan. With her deep connection to her comrades and her competence and conviction regarding the ideology of women's liberation, she was an example of what a militant life can look like. As their companions, we promise to do justice to their struggle and to carry the flag of resistance handed over to us to victory,” said the HPG, who expressed their condolences to the patriotic people of Kurdistan.
The HPG provides the following information regarding the identity of Eser Warşîn:
Code name: Eser Warşîn
First and last name: Dîlan Durak
Place of birth: Istanbul
Names of mother and father: Nurhayat – Taner
Date and place of death: 14 October 2023 / Dersim
Eser Warşîn's parents came from Erdexan-Golan, and she herself was born in Istanbul. Because her family left Kurdistan a long time ago, there was a distance from Kurdish reality. Although Eser Warşîn knew about her Kurdish identity, she only became interested in it as a student when she came into contact with revolutionary movements. As she came to terms with her own reality, she questioned her surroundings and became aware of the reactionary role of women in society. She read Abdullah Öcalan and, impressed by the resistance in Kobanê against the ISIS attack at the time, decided to take part in the Kurdish liberation struggle in 2014.
Eser Warşîn went to the mountains and joined the guerrillas. She saw this decision as a first step towards freedom and a return to her own self. She loved the guerrilla life and stood out from day one with her sincere and warm stand. She was particularly impressed by the leading role played by women in everyday life and in war. The ideology of women's liberation became a fundamental standard by which she oriented herself in her further life of struggle. After her basic training, she stayed in Gare for a while and experienced her first practice in an all-female environment. Afterward, she went to Metina and Qandil.
When the Turkish state unilaterally ended talks about a solution to the Kurdish question and launched a new major attack on the Medya Defense Areas in the summer of 2015, Eser Warşîn wanted to go to the war zone and offer resistance as a YJA Star fighter. She stayed in Behdînan and continued to engage with the guerrilla tactics of democratic modernity. During this time, she contributed to the preparation and implementation of various surprise attacks against the enemy. Finally, at her own persistent request, she went to Dersim, where she died on 14 October 2014 along with her commander, Edessa Cejna.
