In its daily statement about the ongoing war in the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), the Press Centre of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) reported that two soldiers of the Turkish army were killed on Wednesday during actions by the HPG and YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops). A transport helicopter came under fire from guerrillas and had to leave the guerrilla area after being hit. The guerrillas also destroyed a camera surveillance system installed by the Turkish invading forces and captured explosives.
HPG pointed out that during the ongoing military operation launched in the regions of Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn in mid-April, Turkey is using all the means mobilised by NATO and employing internationally outlawed means of combat. The fact that the Kurdish guerrillas nevertheless continue to resist and the Turkish army suffers losses is only possible because the guerrillas are equipped with the Apoist philosophy, a spirit of sacrifice and great willpower, underlined the HPG.
The HPG Press Centre stated the following details about the war in southern Kurdistan on 12 October:
In the Zap region, advances by Turkish invasion forces in the resistance areas of Çemço and Sîda were stopped by guerrillas with actions of sabotage, which killed two soldiers. In Sîda, a mobile guerrilla group destroyed a surveillance camera system. In Saca, the guerrillas seized TNT and C4 explosives, and the prepared devices were defused. In the same area, YJA Star guerrillas struck a Turkish unit with heavy weapons, while another action by a mobile YJA Star unit took place at Girê Cûdî.
HPG reported helicopter flights in Avaşîn, stating that one of the Sikorsky aircraft was fired upon at Girê Şehîd Zêrîn in the Şûkê area and had to turn around after being hit.
The Turkish army used prohibited combat equipment ten times against guerrilla positions in the areas of Çemço, Saca, Sîda, Girê Cûdî and Girê Amêdî. The areas of Girê Bihar, Çemço and Saca were bombed eight times by fighter jets. A total of 28 helicopter attacks were carried out in the Saca, Kurojahro, Girê Cûdî and Girê Amêdî areas, and there were also dozens of attacks with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons. Drones were observed over the resistance areas of Girê Cûdî, Saca and Şehîd Adil. In Karker, Turkish troops again attempted to demolish guerrilla positions with construction machinery.
