HPG reports ongoing guerrilla actions against the Turkish army

The Turkish army attacked guerrilla areas in Southern Kurdistan from the air almost 100 times on Sunday. The HPG and YJA Star guerrillas responded with actions.

The Turkish army attacked guerrilla areas in the Kurdistan region of Iraq (Southern Kurdistan) from the air at least 96 times on Sunday. 38 of these attacks were carried out by fighter jets, according to the press office of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) in a daily report on the war in the region. The targets of the air strikes were the resistance areas of Girê Ortê, Girê Cûdî and Girê Bahar in Metîna. There is no information on casualties among the guerrillas.

In contrast, the HPG, together with the Free Women's Troops (YJA Star), continue their resistance against the Turkish invasion of southern Kurdistan. The list of recent actions against the occupation forces presented by the HPG on Monday gives details of dozens of attacks within one day. In Zap, mobile guerrilla teams struck the invaders first in the village of Sîda, which is located in the Sheladize district in the east of Amadiya city. According to the HPG, one soldier was killed in the shelling of a Turkish position with heavy weapons.

YJA Star fighters then carried out three successive actions in the area in response to a chemical weapons attack against guerrilla positions in the outskirts of Sîda earlier in the day. In addition, smoke from lit car tyres and other microplastic materials were introduced by soldiers into a tunnel facility. It is unclear if and how many military personnel were hit in these actions.

In Metîna alone, twelve actions by the guerrillas were directed against occupation troops at Girê Cûdî. The guerrillas struck the Turkish forces in an ambush-like manner, alternately using both heavy and light weapons. At least two soldiers were injured in an action carried out by the women guerrillas. In the evening, guerrillas struck the Turkish airborne troops over the hill. The transport helicopter with soldiers on board was forced to turn back by massive shelling. At about the same time, military units at Girê Amêdî came under artillery fire several times from mobile guerrilla units.

The statement also reported further attacks by Turkish occupation forces against guerrilla positions. HPG recorded at least two attacks with prohibited bombs on the Şehîd Pîrdoxan battle positions on Girê Amêdî. In addition to the airstrikes already mentioned, 58 other attacks by attack helicopters were directed against Saca, Kurojahro, Girê Amêdî, Girê FM and Girê Cûdî. In parallel, Turkish troops attacked the guerrilla areas with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons. Apart from the FM and Bihar hills, the Çemço resistance area was particularly affected by the bombardments.
