HPG: Rustem Cudi has refused to surrender

"Despite his injury, our companion, Rustem Cudi, fought for days. When his ammunition was used up, he did not surrender, but threw himself into an abyss," the HPG said on the death of Rustem Cudi in Heftanin.

The Press Centre of the People's Defense Forces (Hêzên Parastina Gel, HPG) announced the identity of guerrilla fighter Rustem Cudi, who died on the Xantur hill in the region of Heftanin. Rustem Cudi’s last days stand for the fierce fight that the guerrillas have been waging since June 16 against the Turkish army's invasion of Heftanin. The guerrilla fighter had been injured in a fighting with the Turkish army on July 12. Nevertheless, he continued fighting against the military for several days. When his ammunition was used up, he did not surrender but threw himself into an abyss.

The HPG said: "In 1992 Beritan had plunged into an abyss in order not to fall into the hands of the colonial state and its collaborators. Now our comrade Rustem has followed in her footsteps and has clearly shown enemy and friend the line of resistance of the guerrillas. Even though time and place may change, the attitude of the Apoist militants has never changed."

HPG stated that Rustem Cudi joined the guerrilla from Serêkaniyê in 2016 and has always played a leading role due to his determination and cooperative nature. HPG expressed their condolences to the family of Rustem Cudi and the Kurdish people and vowed to continue the struggle of the martyrs.

The statement went on to say: "Against the invasion, our guerrilla fighters organized the Heftanin resistance based on the new phase of the guerrilla struggle of democratic modernity. With the struggle of Rustem Cudi, the resistance tradition of Kurdistan was demonstrated again. Our companion continued his resistance without interruption and became a legend with his death. In Heftanin, our friends have written a legend of the resistance in the history book of the Kurdish freedom struggle."
