In the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), six soldiers of the Turkish army were killed in guerrilla actions on Wednesday. A drone, a surveillance camera and a sensor were destroyed, the press centre of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) said in its daily published overview of the war in Kurdistan. The HPG pointed out that the Turkish invading forces cannot break the resistance of the guerrillas and are using prohibited means of combat.
The HPG statement listed the following guerrilla actions on 17 August:
Karker: A mobile guerrilla unit destroyed a sensor installed by the Turkish army in the vicinity of a guerrilla position.
Saca: The guerrillas beat back an advance of the Turkish army towards the Şehîd Aryen tunnel.
Girê Amêdî: A mobile guerrilla unit struck a force advancing towards the Şehîd Sîpan tunnel with firearms and hand grenades at 10.30 a.m., killing two soldiers. At 11.30 a.m. and 2 p.m., two soldiers were shot dead by snipers near the Şehîd Pîrdoğan tunnel. At 6.40 pm, guerrillas of the YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) shot down a drone. At 8 pm, two soldiers were killed during an advance towards the Şehîd Sîpan tunnel.

Attacks by the Turkish army on Medya Defense Zones
Under the title "attacks with tactical nuclear bombs and chemical weapons", the HPG reported seven attacks on 16 August on guerrilla positions in the Girê FM and Şikefta Birîndara areas and 28 attacks on 17 August on the Werxelê area.
The Sîda area was bombed four times by fighter jets on Wednesday, while the Kurojahro, Girê FM, Girê Amêdî and Girê Cûdî areas were bombed eleven times by attack helicopters. Girê FM and Girê Hekarî were shelled dozens of times with howitzers.
