HPG Press Communications Center expressed the following in their statement on the ISIS attack in Kirkuk:
“On the day of October 21, ISIS gangs conducted a large scale attack in Southern Kurdistan’s Kirkuk city and its surroundings. When the safety of our people was threatened, a group of our guerillas intervened in a joint operation with Kirkuk Asayish Command and Peshmerge Command. These attacks were voided for the most part starting from the first day, and several gang members were killed. On the second day, the attacks were pushed back, the area was cleared of ISIS gangs and the safety of our people was guaranteed. The Guerrilla force in the operation has reached their base areas afterwards.
The Kurdistan Guerrilla is responsible for the safety of our people and the peoples of the region against all possible attacks, and will always be ready as it has been in the past to fulfill this duty.”
