Hüseyin Arasan, a political refugee from Mardin, was assassinated in Sulaymaniyah and laid to rest in Qandil.
Hüseyin Arasan, who comes from Mardin, succumbed to his bullet wounds in the hospital in Sulaymaniyah early on June 10 morning as a result of an attack the day before. He had been living in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for some time due to political persecution in Turkey and was a member of the Mesopotamia Workers’ Association (KKM). Arasan was laid to rest at the Mehmet Karasungur war cemetery in Qandil this afternoon.
Earlier today, the body was brought to the Ahmedi Haci Ali Mosque in Sulaymaniyah where masses bid farewell to the political refugee, and then taken to the Mehmet Karasungur war cemetery in Qandil to the accompaniment of dozens of cars.
The convoy was met by dozens of residents at the entrance of Qandil chanting the slogan “Şehîd namirin” (Martyrs are immortal).
The ceremony in the cemetery began with a minute of silence in memory of all the martyrs.
Speaking on behalf of the Mesopotamia Workers’ Association, Müslim Kaplan said: “Those who seek to keep us out of the movement should know that we walk on the righteous path of martyrs. The objective of the martyrs is the objective of the Kurds.”
Emphasising that the struggle of martyrs will continue until victory, Kaplan said: “We appeal to the government of South Kurdistan, the KDP, the PUK and all parties. South Kurdistan has turned into a place of traitors. The PUK and KDP should stop such terror attacks and punish the perpetrators if they want to avoid pursuing the path of fascists.”
Rehman Resul of Tevgera Azadî (Freedom Movement) vowed that they would always follow in the footsteps of martyrs, demanding the exposure and punishment of those behind the killing of Arasan.
After the speeches, Arasan was laid to rest with the slogan “Şehîd namirin” (Martyrs are immortal).
