Imprisoned HDP Hakkari parliamentarian Selma Irmak testified at Diyarbakır 2nd Heavy Penal Court in accordance with a previously issued 'forced court appearance' order in the scope of the “KCK Main Case.” Irmak’s lawyers also attended the hearing which was observed by HDP deputies Sibel Yiğitalp and İmam Taşçıer.
In her defense in Kurdish, Irmak recalled that she is a parliamentarian of the HDP that received 6 million votes during June 7 elections and more than 5 million votes during November 1 elections of last year.
Irmak stated that they are being punished after the AKP knocked over the ‘Peace Process’ table, and said "The operation against parliamentarians is a political one. Unfortunately, you are being an instrument to this political operation." Irmak described the arrest of 12 HDP parliamentarians as a ‘shame’ and said "Democracy is being injured and crippled. Unfortunately, the way for violence is being paved."
Irmak pointed out that almost all of the judges, prosecutors and police officers that carried out the 'KCK Main Case' investigation got arrested due to links with the Gülen Movement.
Lawyers Mehmet Emin Aktar and Reyhan Yalçındağ drew attention to the unlawfulness of the prosecution and lawyer Erhan Ürküt said that the constitution has a social contract that excludes the province of Hakkari, whose parliamentarians are in jail.
The court took a voice analysis of Irmak and decided for a recording of her voice. The court defended that the legislative immunity of parliamentarians accords with the constitution, and refused the lawyers’ request to stop the prosecution.
The hearing was adjourned to April.
