Infiltration attempt of ISIS gangs in Kirkuk foiled

ISIS gangs attempting to infiltrate into guerrilla positions in Kirkuk failed after detonation of a mine planted by guerrillas. The gangs suffered casualties and they were forced to flee the region.

ISIS gangs attempted to infiltrate into guerrilla positions near the village of Nawafil to the south of Kirkuk at 01:00 am last night. At least 1 ISIS member died when a mine planted by the guerrillas for defensive purposes was detonated, and the gangs were forced to flee the region.

Nawafil and nearby villages in the Tılwerdê region of Kirkuk’s southern front were liberated from ISIS gangs after a joint operation of guerrilla and peshmerga forces at the beginning of 2015.

Local sources report increased ISIS activity in the region, and state that ISIS gangs attempted to infiltrate into the area twice over the past week, but they were forced to retreat due to the intervention of Kurdish forces in the region.
