It has been 4 years since the Shengal Massacre. A group of doctors visited Shengal to inspect the mass graves on the demand of the Martyrs’ Families Institution in Iraq and by a court order. Doctors arrived in the city on September 3 and started to inspect the mass grave sites in Shengal where ISIS attacked on August 3, 2014.
Shengal District Governor Fehet Hemid spoke to Roj News and said: “A group of doctors under the Martyrs’ Families Institution in Iraq and the court arrived in Shengal to inspect the mass graves. Doctors have started their inspections.”
Hemid said the doctors will meet with families of the disappeared and collect DNA samples from them. The mass graves will be opened afterwards.
69 mass graves have been discovered since the ISIS attack in Shengal. None of them have been opened yet, and there have been no inspections.
