Next week, a group of members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) will lay down their weapons in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in a symbolic ceremony. The action is part of the “process for peace and a democratic society” and is linked to Abdullah Öcalan's February 27 call and the announced self-dissolution of the PKK.

In a statement on Saturday, the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) announced that it had invited a limited number of columnists (15-20 people, determined by quota) to observe this event. The invited writers, representatives of NGOs and political parties will be taken to the Kurdistan Region by our party's organization, the party said.

“There are no obstacles preventing other members of the press from attending the event. All members of the press who wish to attend this event, which will take place with the knowledge of the authorities, will be able to do so through their own means. Journalists who wish to attend the event are requested to provide us with their names so that they do not encounter any difficulties. The information provided by journalists—including their name, the institution they work for, a photo of their press card, phone number, and email address—will be shared with the authorities of the Kurdistan Regional Government for accreditation purposes. Further details regarding the event's date and organization will be provided separately,” the DEM Party stated.

Following the DEM Party’s announcement, several local, national, and international media outlets have been accredited to cover the ceremony.

According to information obtained from DEM Party officials, the number of journalists accredited so far has reached nearly 100.
