Islamic Republic of Iran’s courts have sentenced Lawyer Emir Salar Dawodi to 30 years in prison. The trial of Dawodi, who had been under arrest in the Evin prison since last fall, continued yesterday and Dawodi was found guilty of opening a Telegram channel.
Dawodi had been arrested last year in Tehran for taking on the cases of several activists and opposition members including Kurdish activist Zeynab Jalalian .
TENAZ KOLAHCIYAN: HE DOESN’T DESERVE THIS PUNISHMENT
Emir Salar Dawodi’s wife Tenaz Kolahciyan said her husband did nothing to deserve such punishment and that she will appeal to Iranian higher courts as well as international bodies to overturn the verdict.
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL PROTESTS
Amnesty International issued a statement and said they are “shocked to see the punishment”. The statement pointed out that the sentence is unacceptable and demanded that the Iranian authorities release Dawodi at once.
