Journalist Nûjiyan Erhan (Tuba Akyılmaz) got severely wounded as result of a targeted attack by KDP-AKP gangs on 3 March and she lost her life on 22 March night at the Hesekê Hospital where she had been receiving treatment. On the other hand, YBŞ fighter Ferhat Çuva (Neçîrvan Akbal) fell a martyr during the ISIS attack on Shengal villages on 23 March.

People from Rojava's Cizîr Canton and members of Free Press accompanied the funeral procession from Hesekê to Shengal in a convoy, waving YBŞ-YJŞ flags and carrying photographs of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, Nujiyan Erhan, Ferhat Çuva and martyrs of the freedom struggle.

The funeral procession was welcomed by hundreds in Shengal with the slogan “Şehîd Namirin” [Martyrs are Immortal], and “Bimire Xiyanet” [Death to Betrayal].

A military ceremony was held for Nûjiyan and Ferhat at Martyr Dilgeş and Berxwedan Cemetery with the participation of Shengal Free Press workers, Shengal Constituent Assembly, TAJÊ, PADÊ, YBŞ-YJŞ fighters, Êzîdxan fighters, Êzidî people and people from Rojava's Cizîr Canton.

Speaking during the ceremony, Rosyar Vejîn on behalf of YBŞ-YJŞ Command vowed to resist till the end, saying the followings: "Neither Turkish soldiers nor ISIS-KDP gangs have a place on our sacred lands. We learned resistance from Nûjiyan and Ferhat who are our promise of vengeance. We call on all our Êzidî people to turn everywhere they are into scenes of resistance."

Speaking on behalf of Free Êzidî Women's Movement (TAJÊ), Laleşin put emphasis on Nûjiyan's stance against the gangs and stated the followings: "From Shengal to Nusaybin, we salute all the resisting people of ours. We offer our condolences to the families of Martyr Nûjiyan and Martyr Ferhat, and to the Kurdish people and freedom fighters. Free Kurdistan will be our promise to fulfill as long as we exist. Ferhat fell a martyr whilst fighting against the ISIS gangs till the last bullet. Nûjiyan fell a martyr with a bullet of betrayal. The traitors must know that they will be defeated by the resistance of Nûjiyan and Ferhat just like how Dehaq was defeated on these lands before. Nûjiyan made the voice of freedom fighters heard through her camera, and she showed the world the reality of her people. We promise to enhance the resistance by following in the footsteps of Nûjiyan and Ferhat."

Following the speeches, journalist Nûjiyan Erhan and YBŞ fighter Ferhat Çavu were laid to rest by journalists and their comrades with the slogans “Şehîd Namirin” [Martyrs are Immortal], and “Bimire Xiyanet” [Death to Betrayal].
