Hewler Asayish Forces announced that people from Maxmur won’t be allowed into Hewler for three days and refused entry for people going to Hewler this morning.
Maxmur (Ş. Rüstem Cudi) Camp External Affairs Official Polat Bozan spoke to the ANF and said there was no official information on the reason to the ban, adding: “There have been similar practices in the past for various reasons. This morning people going to Hewler were stopped without being given an excuse and they were told that this ban will continue for three days except for emergencies. We spoke to the Maxmur district governor to clarify the situation. The district governor said he will inform us later but we still haven’t received any information.”
Bozan pointed out there had been such practices against people from Maxmur in the past and said: “Whenever there is a protest or a demonstration in Hewler, they ban entry to Hewler for people of Maxmur. Tomorrow the public workers in Southern Kurdistan are going on general strike, and today we face the same ban. Frankly, it’s not possible to accept such practices. Because most of these people have to work in Hewler and other places to survive economically. We hope this ban will be lifted and such practices against the Maxmur Camp won’t be employed again in the future.”
In the previous days, workers from Maxmur in Hewler and Sulaymaniyah were laid off. Maxmur Workers’ Committee had reacted against this situation with the press conference held with the workers and said they would not accept the situation.
