In the aftermath of the Sheladize insurgency, the KDP has been trying to force the families whose children lost their lives in the struggle for freedom to talk against the PKK.
According to regional sources, in the aftermath of a popular uprising in Sheladize against a Turkish military base following the Turkish state bombings, KDP administrators are resorting to a method much loved by the Turkish state.
The KDP positioned additional forces around the guerrilla-controlled areas, and now they want to pit the people of the region and the PKK against one another.
Local sources say KDP officials visit every one of the families who lost their children in the Kurdistan freedom struggle.
KDP PESHMERGAS ON TV WITH CIVILIAN CLOTHES
Sources who wish to remain anonymous for security reasons said KDP officials have offered money to families to speak against the PKK on television. The same officials have also ordered a list of families who have martyrs.
In parallel KDP peshmergas go on pro-KDP televisions and present themselves as civilians to make anti-PKK propaganda.
The people of Sheladize rose up on January 26, Saturday to protest the bombing where 4 civilians were killed on January 23 and raided the Sire military base. Several military vehicles had been set on fire while the Turkish soldiers killed 2 more civilians in their attack against the people there. At least 6 civilians were wounded.
BARZANI’S THREATS
Following the insurgency, Federal Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister from the KDP Nechirvan Barzani made comments legitimizing the Turkish bombings and invasion. In his speech that legitimized civilian massacres, Barzani blamed the people and the PKK. Barzani said the presence of the PKK in the region is the reason for the attacks and that they “need to remove the reasons that led to this bombing”.
Barzani also threatened punishment for the people and said, “We will put serious emphasis on this to avoid such incidents again.”
MASS ARRESTS
Security forces started mass arrests after Barzani’s comments. In Duhok, Behdinan, Sheladize and Deralok, 80 people including journalists were detained.
