Speaking to ANF, Cudi Soreş, one of the guerrilla commanders on Kirkuk Front, reported that a few areas are currently controlled by gangs in Kirkuk city, and that their fight to take these areas continues.
Soreş said they went into action in the face of the ISIS attacks in Newafil and Karatepe villages and Kirkuk city center in the early morning hours today, noting that ISIS gangs aim to frustrate the Mosul operation with these attacks.
Şoreş stated the followings regarding the attacks in Kirkuk: "We started resistance together with peshmerga forces in Karatepe village and other areas on learning about the attacks. The village of Karatepe has been entirely cleansed of gangs and their wave of attacks has been broken in Dıbız area. Clashes continue at the moment in Kirkuk city center.
Guerrillas and peshmergas are fighting together against the attacks of the gangs near Kirkuk castle and in Dumis neighborhood. As guerrilla forces, we are here for the protection of our people in Kirkuk and we have taken up defense position against the aggression. We will continue to fulfill our mission and responsibility. Clashes continue in several areas at the moment but Kurdish forces have whole control over the region now."
