KRG Deputy PM and the Governor of Sulaymaniyah condemn the Turkish killing of journalists

Kurdistan Regional Government Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani described the murder of the two journalists as an unacceptable crime and called on the Iraqi government and the international community to put limits on the actions of the Turkish state.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and the Governor of Sulaymaniyah, Heval Ebubekir, made a statement on the deadly attack of the occupying Turkish state against the vehicle of free press workers in Sayyidsadiq district of Sulaymaniyah, which killed two journalists.

The statement by Qubad Talabani said: “The victims of the drone strike near Sayyidsadiq were not members of an armed group, but two female journalists. The killing of these journalists is an unacceptable crime and contrary to all international laws and norms. We strongly condemn this offence. It is also a violation of the sovereignty of Iraqi territory. We once again call on the Iraqi government and the international community to stop such violations and put a limit to these actions which pose a serious threat to the lives of civilians in the Kurdistan Region. I take this opportunity to express my condolences to the families and relatives of both martyred journalists and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

Heval Ebubekir, on the other hand, stated: “As the Governor of Sulaymaniyah, I strongly condemn these deliberate military attacks on the territory of the Kurdistan Region, and on the lives and property of our people in our province of Sulaymaniyah. War, attacks and military solutions will not solve the problems, but will only worsen the situation. We call on all parties to return to the path of dialogue, understanding and true peace. We emphasise that this bad situation must end, and our region must become safe and stable.”
