The Kurdish Language Platform has called for increased efforts to promote the use of Kurdish, highlighting the risks facing the language.
A statement addressing the pressures on the Kurdish language was made at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Center in the Yenişehir district of Amed. Representatives from civil society organizations involved in language preservation also attended the meeting.
The statement was delivered by Kurdish Language Platform Spokesperson Şerefxan Cizîrî, who emphasized that the Kurdish language is under significant threat in North Kurdistan. Cizîrî said: “The Kurdish language is not being widely used in social and political relations. If this situation continues, the Kurdish nation in North Kurdistan will face serious challenges.”
Cizîrî urged Kurdish parties and institutions to prioritize the use of Kurdish in their activities, saying that “The Kurdish Language Platform insists that proficiency in the Kurdish language should be a fundamental requirement in political and social work. This is not only a national duty but also a moral obligation and the foundation of our existence as the Kurdish nation.”
Cizîrî also noted that the Kurdish Language Platform’s work has demonstrated that Kurdish parties and movements can collaborate effectively on language and national rights, and added: “Kurdish politics is largely unified when it comes to the issues of language and national rights. This is a well-known reality. Therefore, we declare in unison: the Kurdish language is the essence, identity, and crown of the Kurdish people.”
After the statement, a panel discussion titled “The Kurdish Language and the New Constitution” was held.
