Mass graves in Shengal to be opened

Mass graves containing the remains of Yazidis massacred by ISIS in Shengal, will be opened.

Hundreds of Yazidi people were massacred and put in mass graves when ISIS carried out a genocidal attack against the ancient Kurdish Yazidi community in Shengal in August 2014.

Although many years have passed by, remains of scores of Yazidi civilians are still in mass graves.

Some of the many mass graves in Shengal have been opened since the liberation of the Yazidi land from ISIS by the Kurdish forces.

The mass grave in Kocho village of Shengal will be opened today following a ceremony to be attended by officials from the Iraqi government, United Nations and Yazidi religious scholars.
