Medeni Yıldırım murder suspect released

The main suspect in the killing of Kurdish youngster Medeni Yıldırım in Amed's Lice district in 2013 has been released.

18-year-old Medeni Yıldırım had lost his life as Turkish soldiers opened fire on the mass protesting the construction of an outpost in Amed's Lice district on 28 June 2013. The attack had also left eight other civilians wounded.

Soldier Adem Çiftçi, the only suspect in the killing of Yıldırım, stood trial for “deliberate murder” in the lawsuit filed on the incident two years later, in September of 2015.

During the third hearing, the Turkish commander that had ordered soldiers to fire on the people gave statement as a witness but not a suspect. Furthermore, the court had rejected the trial of the ranked soldiers responsible for the incident.

The sixth hearing of the case was held today at Diyarbakır 7th High Criminal Court which has released the suspect.
