Mehmet Zeki Çelebi commemorated on 100th day of his murder in Sulaymaniyah

Mehmet Zeki Çelebi was commemorated on the 100th day of his murder in Baxê Gişti Square in Sulaymaniyah.

Mehmet Zeki Çelebi, a political refugee from North Kurdistan, who was murdered on 17 May 2022, in front of his Deniz Restaurant in Sulaymaniyah, was commemorated in Baxê Gişti Square on the 100th day of his murder.

The friends and family of Mehmet Zeki Çelebi came together once again to ask why the killers have not been arrested yet. Çelebi’s family and friends held a sit-in.

Speaking at the protest, Meşruk Çiftçi, a member of the Mesopotamia Workers' Association, said that Mehmet Zeki Çelebi was murdered 100 days ago and added: "Mehmet Zeki Çelebi was murdered 100 days ago by the invading Turkish state in front of his shop on a crowded street like Bextiyarî. As it is known, we are political refugees from North Kurdistan. We live within the framework of international laws and the laws of the Kurdistan Region. International organizations such as the Kurdistan Region Government and the UN are responsible for our lives. Unfortunately, since the day we settled in South Kurdistan, we have been exposed to the threats and pressures of the invading Turkish state. Not only that, the Turkish state is targeting and killing us. Our friend Mehmet Zeki Çelebi was killed and our friend Ferhat Başkondu survived by chance.”
