Monument for YPJ fighter Rêwan Rojava erected in Kobanê

A statue of YPJ fighter Medine Mamo (Rêwan Rojava) who carried out an action of self-sacrifice against ISIS during the Kobanê resistance has been erected in Kobanê city center.

With TEV-DEV and YPG’s joint efforts, a monument was put up in Kobanê city center, in the Martyrs Square in the memory of YPJ fighter Rêwan Rojava and her 7 comrades Arîn Mîrkan, Koçerîn Cûdi, Baran Serhed, Botan Yılmaz, Mahir Jiyan, Çekdar Efrîn and Paramaz Kızılbaş.

The monument was revealed in a ceremony that representatives of institution under TEV-DEM, YPG and YPJ fighters and Asayish members attended.

YPJ Commander Rojda Kobanê spoke following the military ceremony and said: “Martyr Rêwan will always be in the memory of Kurdish women. Martyr Rêwan heroically represented the spirit of the free Kurdish woman with her action.”

Institution for Peoples’ Unity and Solidarity (SYPG) member Bêritan Asya, Martyrs’ Families Assembly Co-chair Arif Bali, Sculptor Henan Mustefa Şêx and Leyla Ebdî in the name of Rêwan’s family spoke in the ceremony. In the speeches, the importance of the role of YPG/YPJ fighters who lost their lives in creating the free life was emphasized. Afterwards, the statue was revealed with chants of “Şehid Namirin” and “Bijî Serok Apo”.

Revolutionary Kurdish woman Medina Mamo (Rêwan Rojava) had carried out an action of self-sacrifice against ISIS attacks in Gulmetê village to the south of Kobanê on September 26, 2014.
