Mother awaits the body of her son killed in Nusaybin 8 months ago

Why would a mother await her child’s arrival? Only if her child is in war, in exile or in prison. Would a mother await the arrival of her child’s body? Mother Nesibe in Nusaybin awaits for her child’s dead body…

The Turkish state has put Kurdish people through unlimited savagery and pain during the war over the past 30 years. The state burned Kurdish people’s villages and towns, carried out mass killings, and intensified its savagery after the self-governance resistance. Some examples are burning people alive in basements, the exposure of dead bodies on the ground, and the forcing of a mother in Cizre to live with the dead body of her daughter. Added to these are the mothers that await the arrival of their childrens’ bodies in Nusaybin.

The Turkish state uses the excuse of ‘DNA test’ to not give the bodies of dead YPS fighters to their parents in Nusaybin. Nesibe Kaya is one of such parents, and has not received the dead body of her son Sedat Kaya who lost his life during the YPS resistance in Nusaybin.

‘OTHER PEOPLE’S HAPPINESS MADE HIM HAPPY’

Mother Nesibe said her experience is ‘worse than death’ and describes her son Sedat as a hard-working, friendly and smart child as she explains that Sedat dropped school for his refusal of the Turkish education system. Mother Nesibe emphasized that, like most other YPS fighters, Sedat had strong friendships and other peoples’ happiness made him happy.

‘A PRO-LABOR YOUTH MILITANT’

According to his mother, Sedat Kaya got interested in party politics when he was working in the service industry without the knowledge of his family, who realized Sedat’s political involvement when police officers raided their house in 2015. Sedat became even more active after that date, and got involved in the youth branch of the movement.

PAINFUL PERIOD OF WAITING BEGINS FOR MOTHER NESİBE

Mother Nesibe said that Sedat joined YPS ranks with great determination, and only communicated with his family through a brief text message before he lost his life during the clashes on April 1. Mother Nesibe noted that her family have been unable to retrieve Sedat’s body, and were forced to migrate to a village of Nusaybin after the clashes.

‘BODY TAKEN TO URFA’

Mother Nesibe stated that she went to Urfa after she heard the news that Sedat’s body had been taken there, but authorities refused to give her son's body to the family despite the fact that Mother Nesibe identified Sedat at the Forensics Institution in Urfa.

MOTHER NESİBE CONTINUES TO WAIT FOR THE ARRIVAL OF HER SON’S BODY

Mother Nesibe’s pain is so great that she views receiving her son’s body as a ‘consolation.’ Lastly, Mother Nesibe said “In the past, people used to wait for their children’s return from prison, war and exile. Now, we await the arrival of our children’s bodies” and emphasized that they should stand up and resist despite the ongoing suffering.
