One youth has been shot dead and another heavily wounded by police during a crackdown on a demo in the southern province of Adana.

Hundreds of young demonstrators gathered in Dağlıoğlu neighborhood of Adana's central Seyhan district against the Turkish state's massacre of civilians in North Kurdistan Monday evening. Police traditionally staged a crackdown on protesters who responded to the attack with stones and fireworks. While the area was blockaded with armored vehicles, a 19-year-old youth by the name of Murat Daşkan was chased by police in a dead end street. Daşkan was shot by police on this street, upon which he was rushed to Private Güney Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds despite all the medical efforts.

Eyewitnesses have also confirmed the murder of the youth by police, telling; "Police entered the neighborhood with armored vehicles and opened random fire around. They chased after that youth for some 100 meters, and then shot him in a dead end street.”

While one of the witnesses said police later took the youth's body away in an armored vehicle, one other said police came back to the scene half an hour later and cleared away shell casings.

Hospital sources have also reported that police brought the youth's body to hospital where he lost his life a while later. Daşkan's body has been taken to the Forensic Medicine Institution.

While protests in mainly Kurdish neighborhoods of Adana are going on, another youth by the name of Kadir Çalışkan was heavily wounded by police as a result of an aggression on a similar demo in Hürriyet neighborhood.

20-year-old Çalışkan was shot in the back as police targeted demonstrators with gunfire from armored vehicles. Residents rushed the youth to Private Güney Hospital where he has received urgent response before being referred to TOKİ Numune Training and Research Hospital. According to hospital sources, Çalışkan is in a life-threatening situation and has been taken under treatment in intensive care unit.
