PAJK: The memory of comrade Leyla will be a light in our struggle

PAJK Coordination issued a written statement regarding the martyrdom of Filiz Aslan (Leyla Agiri), member of the Executive Council of KJK.

PAJK said: “Our friend Leyla Agiri was an important figure in the women's liberation struggle in Kurdistan, who fought and lost her life in a vile attack by the fascist Turkish Republic. We express our condolences to all women who resisted for the sake of freedom, our people and their precious patriotic family, and we promise to carry out the women's freedom revolution as a sign of respect towards Leyla”.

The statement added: "Leyla is the name of the leading women in Kurdistan. This name, which appears at every historical stage of the resistance, has been the common name of the struggling women in all parts of Kurdistan, from Leyla Kasım to Leyla Kaplan, from Leyla Wali Huseyin to Leyla Agiri.”

The statement said: “When comrade Leyla met with the president [Ocalan] in 1995, she made a contract with freedom. She participated in the struggle with honour and with great determination. With this belief, she always took her leading place in every situation, position and time of the struggle. Believing in the democratic solution and peace is achievable through a strong women' self-defence, she played a major role in the construction of democratic confederalism. Despite all the difficulties, she carried the determination of success by preserving her revolutionary morale and enthusiasm.”

The statement continued: “The martyrdom of friend Leyla deeply affected everyone who knew her, but strengthened us to fight. Kurdish women will continue to walk in the path of comrade Leyla, to resist and to increase the struggle as the successors of this resistance. We are stronger than ever, angrier and vengeful than ever before against the male-dominated, fascist and brutal enemy reality. As PAJK, we will ensure that the struggle and memory of comrade Leyla, will walk towards victory. Her memory will be a light in our struggle and we will crown her struggle with the promise of reaching and achieving the freedom expectations of all the Kurdish people, oppressed people and women."
