Police crackdown continues on thousands of people across the main Kurdish city Amed who have started a march to the central Sur district to break the siege in force for 92 days.

Hundreds of civilians remain trapped in various locations in the areas under fire of Turkish military and police forces in Sur; facing a threat of an imminent massacre like in Cizre where as many as 178 people were burned to death on alleged grounds of “being members of the terrorist organisation, PKK”.

As demonstrators continue marching to Sur despite the police attack, to which they respond, clashes are spreading across the city.

People are wearing masks covered with photos of those killed by state forces in Cizre and Silopi districts of Şırnak. Police barricades at various points have been pulled down. Slogans resound across the city.

Thousands advancing from Kayapınar to Sur have reached the district of Ofis. Demonstrators have gathered, built up barricades and lit fires on Lise Street.

Thousands from Ergani district also continue their march to Amed despite all the obstructions they have faced on their way. People have managed to overcome the barricades laid at the exit of the district, chanting slogans "PKK is the people and the people are here".

Those marching from Bismil district are in the meantime hindered from entering Amed city. Yet, people are determined to reach Sur by overcoming the obstructions by Turkish police forces.

DBP Bismil district co-chair Habip Akıncı stressed that they will reach Sur under any circumstances, even if it lasts till the midnight.
