Residents of the Maxmur Refugee Camp in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq took to the streets in protest at the Turkish attacks across Kurdistan territory.

The demonstration followed a Turkish drone strike that targeted the mosque located in the camp at 19:05 local time yesterday evening. A woman and two children were injured as a result of the attack.

Residents of Maxmur marched to the Iraqi checkpoint in the vicinity of the camp to protest the never-ending Turkish attacks against Maxmur, southern Kurdistan and Rojava (North-East Syria).

Speaking to RojNews, a resident of the camp, Fadile Piran, said: “The fascist Turkish state intends to massacre people. How can a state that claims to be Muslim bomb a mosque? Unable to confront the resistance of the guerrillas, the Turkish state is attacking civilians, bombing civilian settlements, infrastructure and vital supply facilities in Rojava. Still, they will not be able to annihilate the Kurdish people. We are not afraid of the Turkish state. We will resist to the very end. The Turkish state launched yet another wave of attacks against civilians using the guerrilla attack in its capital as a pretext. We are not afraid of their tanks and weapons. Even Saddam could not destroy the Kurds.”

Fadile Piran continued: “Erdoğan has no right to scare the children who are playing outside. We leave him to God. We know that we will be victorious. We were attacked with chemical weapons, our children were burned in tunnels and their bones were handed over in boxes. They did anything they could to break our determination. They, however, will never be able to do that, no matter how hard they try. Our anger is growing. We call on all the Kurds to stand up against this brutal enemy.”

Another resident, Sadık Heştani, said: “We condemn this attack which fortunately did not result in a loss of life. This attack on our camp is related to the attacks on Rojava and the free mountains. We live under the roof of Iraq and those who shut their eyes to these attacks are partners in crime. We call on all the Kurdish patriots and democrats in and outside of Kurdistan to stand against Turkish attacks and to embrace Maxmur and Rojava.”
