PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) Executive Council member Murat Karayılan joined the special program of Voice of Kurdistan (Dengê Kurdistan) Radio and evaluated the Turkish state's savagery in Nusaybin's Xerabê Bava village.
Below are the highlights of Karayılan's statements:
“PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE AT RISK IN XERABÊ BAVA VILLAGE”
“The press is covering a siege ongoing in Nusaybin's Xerabê Bava village over the past 11 days. There is talk of some revolutionary martyrs. The fact is that we have not been able to receive clear and specific information on this topic. But there is a huge atrocity in that village. Our people remain under a siege in Xerabê Bava village over the past 11 days. Nobody knows how many people have been massacred or arrested there until now. The entire village has been taken captive. People are imprisoned inside their houses. They are not even allowed to feed their animals. Those animals are starving. These people's lives are at risk. It is not known how many people have been killed and how much damage has been inflicted there. What is known is that people have been tortured at the village square and some fell martyr Savagery is taking place in that village in this century. It is a second Cizre incident.
“FASCISM WILL NOT STOP IF YOU REMAIN SILENT”
A week ago a dog had fallen into a well and the Turkish press covered this for 10 days. They even made it a headline for three days. But dogs, sheep and humans are at risk in a village in Kurdistan today. Hundreds of people are at risk but the Turkish media does not even utter a sentence on this incident. This exposes the hypocrisy of colonialism and the bourgeois system in Turkey. Where is humanity, law and democracy? They talk about these things only when they themselves are concerned.
Some Kurdish parliamentarians and politicians are trying to go to the village but the state does not allow them. Clearly, a cruelty is taking place there. Remaining silent in the face of this cruelty is getting away from humanity. Not only the AKP and the MHP but everyone who are only watching are responsible for this cruelty taking place in Kurdistan. The enemy is treating our people cruelly and if you remain silent, atrocity and fascism will not stop. It can bee seen that if our people had taken to the streets and embraced the people targeted in massacres such as Cizre, this cruelty Xerabê Bava could have been prevented. This must be known very clearly.
“OUR PEOPLE'S SILENCE IS UNACCEPTABLE”
It is clear that the Turkish state is punishing our people, just like it did in Roboskî. In this case, our people must stand by Xerabê Bava just like they did for Roboskî. Clearly, the state does not like this village, the residents of which have protected their identity since the past, this is why the state is besieging the village, burning and destroying houses, and beating and arresting people. It is not certain how many people they have massacred. In any case, our people's silence is by no means acceptable.
I saw it in the media that Kurdish politicians say “we are going, our people should come too.” Our people should answer these calls and overcome their fear and retreat. There is cruelty and a massacre in Xerabê Bava, tomorrow these will happen in other villages. As Kurdish society, we mustn't be silent in the face of atrocity. We must embrace one another. We must react and do all we can. This is a right of our people and a must for existence. Humanity is trampled on and all sorts of cruelty is executed in that village. Kurdish people must embrace one another against this savagery. For example, Amed and all other regions should take initiative in this regard. Embracing one another should be the character of the new period. On the contrary case, i. e. the enemy does not see resistance where it attacks, then it will not stop. The AKP-MHP alliance is trying to continue its existence and establish their dictatorship through their enmity towards Kurds and fascism in Kurdistan. Every Kurd must therefore take a stance against this alliance. It is everyone's duty to do so. All the Turkish people and everyone that identifies themselves as human mustn't be silent against this cruelty. Silence is complicity. Everybody should know this. I believe that our people will embrace one another more from now on. This is because such an initiative is growing both inside and outside the country. Of course, our people in Europe should not only watch and remain silent in the face of this cruelty. We should let the entire world know about the developments taking place in the villages of Kurdistan. As Kurds, we should embrace one another. We are going through such a period.”
