People in the main Kurdish city Amed have brought the life to a standstill today in solidarity with the central Sur district and other towns across North Kurdistan that remain under a heavy onslaught by state forces.
As reactions are growing against the state repression, people have today left work in city centre and districts upon a call by DBP (Party of Democratic Regions) and HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party).
While only pharmacies and bakeries provide service in the city today, thousands have gathered for a march in protest at the all-out annihilation attacks by state forces in the central Sur district.
As the onslaught in Sur gets heavier in its second week, people of Amed led by DBP and HDP provincial organisations have flocked to Esma Ocak for a march to Çiftkapı area.
Soon after the beginning of the march to Sur district, which is also joined by HDP co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ and DBP co-chair Kamuran Yüksek, police attacked the mass with water cannon and tear gas.
While police forces blockaded the mass, demonstrators pulled down the barricades, upon which state forces intensified their attacks.
Both the crackdown by police forces and resistance by the people continue.
